How a reference pick was finished: 'accept' (Enter / Tab — keep the picked ranges) or 'cancel'
(Escape — abandon them). Deliberately pick-vocabulary, not edit-vocabulary: what accepting means
(commit an edit session, close a dialog range field, ...) is the producer's business. The triggering
key + modifiers ride along for producers that distinguish — e.g. a dialog treating Tab as
accept-and-move-to-the-next-field (Shift reversing) while Enter accepts-and-closes.
